Curriculum Vitae


He was born in Athens, Greece, in 1955. He graduated from the Athens German High School (Dorpfeld Gymnasium) in 1972. He studied Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Athens and graduated in 1978. He trained in General Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Universities of Leiden (the Netherlands) and Nijmegen (the Netherlands).

He served in the Greek Navy as a recruit with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During that period he held the position of registrar at the department of Ear Nose and Throat Surgery, Athens Naval Hospital.

He successfully defended his PhD Thesis on the Intraarticular Cartilage Transplantation in 1987 and was appointed Assist. Prof. at the University of Nijmegen. He further trained in General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Leuven (Belgium) and the University College London (Great Britain). He specialized in Head and Neck Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery. He was appointed Assoc. Prof. of Surgery (Head and Neck Surgery) at the University of Leuven and later Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Middlesex Hospital (UCLH NHS Trust) and the Whittington Hospital (London, Great Britain). Since 2003 he practices Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Athens, Greece, where he is with the IASO Group of Hospitals.

He has participated in numerous national and international congresses and conferences were he has presented more than one hundred presentations. He has published more than seventy papers in peer reviewed national and international journals, as well as two books. He has also published articles on Plastic Surgery, Skin Cancer, Breast Pathology, Facial Traumatology etc. in newspapers and magazines. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (since 1989). He has also served as a reviewer for various other national and international surgical journals.

In 1988 he was awarded the Leibinger Price of the European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery for his work on cartilage transplants.
